Top 5 shopping in Bangkok

1) Chatuchak Market (Weekend Market)

Chatuchak Market, or Weekend Market as most know it, is the market of all markets in Bangkok! A giant maze of stalls and shops, that sell everything from local brand clothes, fake watches to puppy dogs and snakes. Whatever you are looking for you can find it here! If you don't get lost of course! This place gets overrun by thousands of Bangkok residents in the weekends where it is open.

The stalls are clustered together in zone's on what they are selling, so you will find all clothes in one zone, animals in another, woodcrafts somewhere else and so on. It is a good idea to get a map of the market before going as it is very easy to get lost.

If you only go shopping one place when you are in Bangkok, then this is the place to do it.

The market is open Saturdays and Sundays, and you get there by either taking the MRT to
Kampheng Phet subway station or the BTS to Mo Chit station. Chek the map below:
2) MBK (Mah Boon Krong)

Mah Boon Krong is a giant shopping mall in 6 floors located right at the National Stadium BTS station. It is a very popular tourist destination because of its location and tons of counteirfeit goods. You will have a hard time finding original brands here! You can get anything you could want here, but MBK is perhaps best known for its 4th floor with cell phones and electronics. Watch the list of popular phone numbers at the shops. Some lucky numbers can cost thousands of baht!
There is also a great food mart and many good restaurants. This is a good place to buy copies of brand name jeans.

3) Pratunam Market

Pratunam Market is a wholesale textile market. Buying here means buying pr. kiglo! The small alleys are filled with vendors selling textiles and clothes at large discounts. If you are looking to buy wholesale, then this is the place to be! Pratunam Market is located at the intersection between Asoke Road and Pethcburi Road. Your best bet is probably to get a taxi or tuk-tuk as it can be a bit difficult to find otherwise.

4) Siam Square and Siam Paragon

I put these two together as they are located closely together and both can be seen in one outing. Siam Square is the young and trendy spot for teenagers and college students in Bangkok. Go here to see all the new in thai fashion and music. There is often shows or promotions going on trying to compete for this trendy and wealthy crowd! If you are male, you may want to hold on to something as thai university girls in their signature short skirts rummage around! A sight made in heaven!

Siam Paragon is as far removed from MBK you can get, not in distance, but in style. This shopping mall features all the designer brands you can imagine and luxury items from all over the world. It is a place for the rich and the wanna be rich to go and show of and maybe buy some overpriced designer wear! The mall has even got an Ocean World in the basement. Men, keep your girlfriends on a tight leash here!

You get two both Siam Paragon and Siam Square by taking the BTS to the Siam station.

5) Panthip Plaza

Some may say that this Bangkok institution should be ranked higher? After all this is a 4 story high shopping center dedicated to electronics and software, especially pirated software!
Panthip is a great place to go if you need anything electronics related, but the prices are not really that low compared to other places in Bangkok. What Phantip has going for it is the cheap pirated software where you can really save a fortune on things like Photoshop or equals. You can also get second hand electronics here for a good discount, but watch out as there is no warranty.

Panthip Plaza is located on Petchburi Road with no BTS or MRT nearby so taxi or tuktuk is your best transport option!
